I know everyone has heard a story about a scammer or fake charity, and have been approached while you were in a shopping center or leaving a bank and have been asked to donate money. There is always a question of doubt at least for me, on where the money is actually going and to who. Then there are those who approach people in the street or home collecting money, calling or emailing with requests for donations. They have fake websites which look similar to real charities but are not quite the same.

These scammers and fake charities operate all year, but also target major events and disasters to capitalize on people’s kind nature and desire to want to help others in a time of need.

Australia isn’t alone in remembrance. Veterans Day is annually on November 11, the holiday honors all veterans of the United States armed forces. A traditional observation is a moment of silence at 11 AM remembering those who fought for peace. Which commemorates the cease-fire in the 1918 armistice which was scheduled for the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

I use these two as examples because it’s these moments in time, these huge events that have shaped whole nations and it’s on these days that scammers and con artists will exploit the goodness of people, and a patriotic feeling, to line their own pockets and rob real people in need. In the process of doing so, they harm the name and reputation of many legitimate charities that do, actual, great work for veterans and services members along with their families.

Just like the ones below.

The problem is the kind of people who scam and con others don’t really care about the effect it has on anyone but themselves. What makes it easier for them is that most people may not spot the slight differences in details, or may regularly give to charities, so may not question the person standing in front of them. But how can you be sure that the person you are speaking with is from the charity and organization they say they are?

That’s where VeriDoc Global comes into the picture with its finished solution.

Why should you have to doubt the person standing in front of you is from a real charity?

VeriDoc Global has developed a finished solution that uses a unique digital hash that is stored on the QR code. When any QR reader is used to scan the QR code on the ID, the system looks at the unique hash and then checks the hash on the blockchain. The system verifies that the hash exists on the blockchain and then displays the original document that is linked to the hash. The ID of the person standing in front of you and the contact details for who they work for and any relevant information about them.

This stops fraud because blockchain technology prevents the data and the QR code from ever being changed or removed, and you can check it yourself with any smartphone almost instantly. If fraudsters try to create their own QR codes, it will fail the verification process because it doesn’t exist in VeriDoc Global’s library.

It’s a proven solution to a horrible problem.

So let's do something about it. Ask more questions of your charity, find out if they are using blockchain because any charity that uses blockchain, also gives you the ability to verify not only the people who work for them, easily and for free, but blockchain is a digital ledger that can’t be altered once it’s created so it also allows people to see where their money is going and how it’s being used.

Transparency and trust are at the core of any charity and blockchain help verify and build trust in the organization and assure people, that the money they are giving 100% isn’t going to a scam.
